My mom's thyroid function totally stopped , and it got shrunk. While seeing through USG scan it seems like cancerous . But blood test and smear biopsy test are inconclusive . So doctor is thinking about taking small thyroid tissue n send for biopsy. My question is in India how common is thyroid cancer , and is it treatable , and what is the percentage of survival rate . Incidence of thyroid cancer in India is increasing. Yes, biopsy is must and also may need additional imaging. Prognosis and mortality depends on the TYPE of thyroid cancer, STAGE of cancer, RESPONSE to surgery and initial therapy and other factors.
