Widal test measures the antibodies present in a serum sample against salmonella group of bacteria. The antibody titres are calculated depending on the number of clumps formed between the antigen and antibodies.

Widal test can detect infection caused by Salmonella typhii and paratyphii bacteria. It is commonly called typhoid fever.
