About hospitals in Mumbai

The top hospitals in Mumbai carry the responsibility of serving millions of people from all over the country. Some examples include the non-profit sector, small private clinics, and huge hospital consortia across India. Large hospitals in Mumbai, like Hinduja, Breach Candy, Jaslok, Bombay Hospital, Nanavati, and Lilavati, are administered by public trusts. Still, they are included in the category of private healthcare infrastructure.
According to a World Bank assessment, Mumbai's existing health infrastructure was designed between 1950 and 1980 to serve between 5.2 and 7 million people but currently serves about 13 million. Despite being one of the leading healthcare cities in the nation, Mumbai has too many residents for the number of hospitals and doctors to serve everyone's medical needs adequately. BMC is attempting to resolve this issue by improving the healthcare environment.

Government and Private Hospitals in Mumbai

Mumbai has a robust public health system. Mumbai residents are served by hospitals and dispensaries operated by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), the state of Maharashtra, and the private sector. The MCGM has a network of 16 municipal general hospitals in Mumbai, six specialty hospitals, 29 maternity homes, 175 municipal dispensaries, and 183 health posts. It also has four medical college hospitals and one dentistry college hospital. In addition, Maharashtra operates two health facilities, three general hospitals, and one medical college hospital in Mumbai.
Approximately 75% of patients say they received care in the best hospitals in Mumbai, which are private. Many people who wish to receive treatment from a private hospital can easily visit these hospitals because they are spread throughout the city.
