(ABHA) Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) was launched in September 2018 to accomplish the Ayushman Bharat mission of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). This national health protection scheme is a flagship scheme of the Government of India.

The Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Ayushman Bharat policy provides a cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family for hospitalization across public and private empanelled hospitals in India [1].

With the PMJAY card or (ABHA Card) Ayushman Bharat registration, the government aims at providing health coverage to vulnerable or low-income families. On the third anniversary of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the Prime Minister launched Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission to provide a Health ID card that will be linked to all your health records.

Read on to know why PMJAY registration is important and why you should opt for Health ID or (Ayushman) ABHA Card online.

What is a Ayushman Bharat health ID?

Ayushman Bharat Health ID is now renamed to Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). It is a 14 digit health ID number for identifying, authenticating, and making health records available across multiple systems and stakeholders. To participate in Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, you need to create an Ayushman Bharat Digital Health ID card.

Digital Health ID card or ABHA card promotes digital healthcare. It allows you to access and share your medical records digitally with healthcare providers and insurers.

You can interact with your healthcare provider, receive lab reports, prescriptions, and diagnoses with ease. ABHA health card is an initiative by the central government to create safer and efficient digital health records [2].

Why do you need to create a Ayushman Bharat health ID?

Creating a Health ID helps you move towards creating a secure and organized way to store health records for yourself and your family. The secured ABHA card allows you to access and share your health information with participating stakeholders. It is a safe way of digital healthcare as your data is not shared without your consent.
