Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year and marks the start of the modern environmental movement of 1970. In the decades leading up to the first Earth Day, people had little awareness regarding environmental concerns and how pollution was threatening human health. It was to counter this that Earth Day was first initiated.

The year 2022 marks the 52nd anniversary of Earth Day where millions around the world will mobilize to address concerns regarding the threats affecting our environment and impacting earth. Earth Day celebration usually addresses everything from deforestation to climate change and plastic pollution. Theme for the Earth Day 2022 

The theme for this year’s Earth Day is “Shape Our Future”. This theme aims to bring awareness about the damage to climate that is impacting our world today. It is also pivotal for everyone to understand the part they play in shaping the world for the upcoming generations.

Earth Day activities  

Make this Earth Day celebration an opportunity to give something back to Mother Earth. You can do the following activities solo or with friends and family.

  • This day was an initiative suggested by a senator from Wisconsin named Gaylord Nelson who started to observe this day in 1970. This was done to raise public awareness about environmental concerns like oil spills, vanishing flora and fauna and pollution.
