The National Digital Health Mission renamed as Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission was initiated by the Indian Government in 2020 to create a digital health record for Indian citizens. This will facilitate easy tracking of the records and will make delivery of services efficient negating chances of document misplacement and lags.

A health ID will be created upon registration and a card will be provided to all participants (doctors, patients, hospitals/clinics, pharmacies or any other stakeholder involved in the healthcare sector). The ID will be linked to the Ayushman Bharat Health Account. The ID and account created are free of charge and hospitals can access patient records such as lab reports and previous prescriptions with just a click.

Patients can be rest assured that the confidentiality of documents uploaded is upheld at all times. This is enforced with the feature of a consent manager through which patients authorize the use of their records. Trust and reliability are the building blocks of the platform and so once the go-ahead is provided by the patient, the hospital can visit their account and open the documents remotely. What is ABHA Address?

Your ABHA address is a username you select like your email address. You can use your ABHA address to sign into the Health Information Exchange portal and Consent Manager.

The ABHA address or the Ayushman Bharat Health Account Address acts as a unique identity and identifier for you, i.e., it will identify you with the self-declared username you have registered with. It will enable you to share and access all your health and medical records digitally in one place. Your ABHA address will resemble an email ID like @consentmanager.

For e.g. abcdef@abdm will be your ABHA address attached with your ABHA consent manager. This will help you facilitate your health data in exchange for your consent on the ABDM network.
