Dr. Om Parkash, the founder of this renowned institute, was born on July 22, 1928, in Dulmial, in what is now Pakistan's Jehlam District. Dr. Tulsi Dass, his maternal uncle, served as a motivation for my decision to pursue a career in ophthalmology. At Glancy Medical College in Amritsar, he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in 1950 and 1957, respectively. He began working in various roles for the Department of Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Amritsar before being transferred to the Medical College of Rohtak, where he served as the department head. In 1968, when working for the government was seen as a highly desirable and secure career, he withdrew from this secure job against all odds and established his own private practice in Amritsar.
